PBIS in Davidson County Schools

What is PBIS?

Positive Behavior Intervention and Support is a research-based best practice recommended by the U.S Department of Education and North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

When implemented consistently throughout the school, PBIS leads to decreased discipline problems, increased academic engagement, and a positive school climate.

The foundational principle of PBIS is that appropriate behavior and social skills should be directly taught just as academic skills are directly taught. We live in a diverse society, and students are influenced by media, peers, and many other factors. We cannot assume that students automatically know what appropriate school behavior looks like unless we teach them.
