The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has a new curriculum for mastering Media and Computer Skills. The Information and Technology Essential Standards are currently in place in North Carolina. They blend skills from both Media Studies and Technology and have been designed to help students gain the knowledge they need to become a 21st Century Learner and compete in a world that is constantly growing technologically.

The Department of Media Services and Instructional Technology has developed a website with resources aligned with the Common Core Essential Standards that also blends the Essential Standards for Information and Technology where applicable. The resources consist of Website Resources, Ideas for Using Software and Equipment, and Ideas for Working in a Computer Lab Situation.
