Response to Intervention (RtI) focuses on providing earlyidentification and intervention for readers who struggle, with a goal ofreducing the number of students who are classified as learners withdisabilities. Research suggests that many early readers who struggle can bebrought up to grade level with intensive early intervention. RtI is a problem solving methodutilizing data to make intervention decisions based on a continuum of studentneeds. Through the Comprehensive Literacy Initiative, our schoolshave been building a foundation for RtI by strengthening our coreinstruction. For the 2010-2011school year, Davidson County Schools will implement RtI fully in two pilotschools, and partially in all other elementary schools. All schools will receive professionaldevelopment throughout the year through professional learning communities and CurriculumLeadership Team sessions, with additional training sessions scheduled for RtIpilots. |
