These are some strategies you can work on with your child at home.

I REMEMBER
Read a little bit.  Stop.  Say what you remember about what you just read.

SAY SOMETHING
Read a little bit.  Stop.  Say what the text makes you think about.  This can be in the form of "I wonder", "This reminds me of...", "I think...", or "WOW, I didn't know that...".

KEY WORD
Read a little bit.  Stop.  Pick out the one word or word phrase that best describes what you read.  Make a list and use key words to guide you in a retell of the story.

Fix-It Strategy

This strategy is to help students when they come to a tricky word.

-Look at the picture

-Get your mouth ready

-Find a chunk

-Skip it

-Go back and reread it

-Does it make sense?
