These are schedules for what we are doing WITHIN THE REGULAR SCHOOL DAY to account for time out of school for extraordinary weather circumstances this year. This will help us avoid adding additional days, attending on Saturday, or changing/extending the daily schedule.

SNOW MAKE UP DAYS

Students in high school courses at DECHS will make up class time missed due to inclement weather at the following times:

The days listed above are all noted on the posted, board approved calendar for 2013-2014.

Should there be additional days needed at a later time, you will be notified.

There has been no indication that there will be additional days added to the DCCC calendar. Should that change, you will be notified.

At the current time, this will not effect graduation for either DECHS or DCCC. The DCCC graduation is scheduled for May 17, 2014 and the DECHS graduation is scheduled for May 24, 2014.

1/30/14 > Inclement Weather Policy - revised
DECHS Inclement Weather Policy (1/30/2014)

DECHS students and faculty/staff should follow the guidelines listed below regarding inclement weather:

For HIGH SCHOOL courses offered through DECHS faculty and staff, guidelines posted by the Davidson County Schools will be followed. For example, if the Davidson County Schools are closed, there will be no HIGH SCHOOL courses at DECHS. If the Davidson County Schools are delayed or dismiss early, DECHS classes will delay or dismiss early.

For COLLEGE courses offered through DCCC, students will follow college guidelines and procedures. For example, if DCCC courses are not starting until 10am, students will not report to the college prior to 10am and will meet with classes that begin/are in session at 10am or later (classes prior to 10am would not meet). If DCCC is in session and DECHS/DCS is not, students should attend DCCC courses as scheduled, but HIGH SCHOOL courses will not meet.

It should be noted that students and parents do what they feel is best and safest for their situation. In all cases, safety is the highest priority. Students should maintain contact with college instructors and high school seminar teachers in all situations regarding options and choices regarding attendance, assignments, and make-up work.

In Summary:
High School classes offered through DECHS will follow closing/delay guidelines and procedures posted by the Davidson County School.
College classes offered through DCCC will follow closing/delay guidelines and procedures posted by Davidson County Community College.

This is a message from the DCS superintendent.
This message has been approved by Rusty Hunt - VP at DCCC.
College instructors are to work with DECHS students regarding making up time and assignments.
If you have college classes after 10:30am, please make contact with those instructors ASAP (juniors and seniors).
Please begin arranging for transportation and pick up immediately so that you can be picked up at 10:30am (no later than 11am).
There will be NO lunches served today.

We will be releasing early today due to the threat of snow.

1/28/14 > Closing - 1/29
DECHS and DCCC will be closed on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 along with our partner systems in DCS, LCS, and TCS. There will be no college or HS classes on 1/29. Please check the DECHS and DCCC websites throughout the day and maintain contact with college instructors and seminar teachers. Yearbooks are on sale now through February 26th.

Students were given materials for ordering yearbooks and they may also be purchased online.

Yearbooks are $40.

DECHS will hold its FlapJack Fundraiser on Saturday, February 8 from 8-10am at the Applebees in Lexington. Tickets are $7 each and are on sale now. Please see Mrs. Decker or any SGA member to purchase tickets.

1/08/14 > PSAT Night
Sophomores and Juniors who took the PSAT in October 2013 are invited to PSAT night on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. The meeting will begin at 6pm in Sinclair 115. Participants will receive results and test booklets as well as tips for understanding results and tips for SAT preparation.
1/08/14 > Yearbooks on Sale!
Yearbook sales will begin Wednesday, January 8 and run through Wednesday, February 26. Students will receive order forms via seminar classes on 1/8, 1/9, or 1/14.
Basic yearbooks cost $40. Name stamping is an additional $5 fee and students can purchase a "year in review" current events booklet for an additional $2.
Also - business ads and senior ads can still be purchased until January 31. Please call Mrs. Gentry at 242-5687 with any questions.
12/03/13 > Computers and Computer Bags
It is essential that students keep the hard case on the computer they were issued and that they store and carry the computer only in the computer bag they were issued.
We will be collecting computers from all freshmen and sophomores before the winter break so that they can be stored and updated over the holidays.
11/26/13 > Progress Reports
All students should have received progress reports for High School courses on 11/25 or 11/26. If you have not seen a recent progress report for a High School course, please contact the teacher of that course.
Please not that you can check progress in DCCC courses at anytime via Moodle. Please have your student show you their DCCC progress on a regular basis. We will also distribute grade information that we received from the college by mail.

11/18/13 > PLAN Information - 10th graders
Sophomores and Parents:
DECHS will be hosting a PLAN information night on Tuesday, November 19th at 6pm in the Sinclair Building at DCCC. All sophomores took the PLAN test in October and this event will be to distribute and review scores and provide information regarding the test and its focus in preparing students for the ACT as juniors next year.

DCCC will be hosting a College Night on Tuesday, November 12 from 6:00-7:30pm.

10/10/13 > Fall Break Schedule - OCtober 14-18 2013
DECHS/DCCC Fall Break Schedule - October 14-18, 2013

There will be NO DCCC college courses October 14-18. Juniors and Seniors who are enrolled in college courses do not need to report to campus October 14-18.

Freshmen and Sophomores will follow the modified schedule below:

Monday 10/14 and Tuesday 10/15 - 1/2 day (class will run from 8:30am-12:30pm...Math 1 will meet until 1pm)

8:30-10:00 - 1st Block; 10:05-11:35 - 2nd Block; 11:40-12:30 - Seminar (Math 1 will meet from 11:40-1:00). Lunches will be available as normal at 12:30pm. Students are dismissed at 12:30pm and must be picked up by 1:00pm.

Wednesday 10/16 - Non Instructional Day/Teacher Workday (end of 1st quarter)

Thursday 10/17 and Friday 10/18 - Annual Leave Days / No School

*Please note: All SOPHOMORES will be involved in PLAN Testing on 10/15 and can be picked up at 11:30am when the test concludes*

9/26/13 > College Info and Planning Session
On Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 6:30pm – 7:45pm DECHS will co-host an information session titled: Stepping Towards The Future: Finding and Applying To College. This information session will take place at Valley Academy located at 2065 E. Holly Grove Road, Lexington, NC 27292.

School Counselors from Davidson County Early College, Davidson County High School and Valley Academy will meet with parents to discuss college campus visits, the college application process, scholarships, and other pertinent information to increase college success. This presentation is for parents/guardians and students.

9/25/13 > Information Regarding Emergencies and Notification
Student safety is of paramount concern for everyone with Davidson County Schools. In the event of a situation at one of our campuses that presents a threat to the safety of students, faculty and staff, our top priority will be to partner as needed with law enforcement and first responders to ensure the immediate safety of students, faculty and staff. Once the situation has been properly assessed, contained and investigated the superintendent or superintendent’s designee will attempt to notify parents, the news media and other interested parties as soon as it is feasible to do so under the circumstances.
9/17/13 > Constitution Day
On Tuesday, September 17, DECHS students participated in DCCC's annual reading of the constitution to commemorate Constitution Day.

9/17/13 > UNC-TV Special Presentation
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has partnered with UNC-TV to produce an hour-long program, North Carolina Schools and You: What Changes in Our Schools Mean for Parents and Students. This program will be broadcast twice on UNC-TV: once on Thursday, September 19, at 10 p.m., and again on Friday, September 27, at 4:30 p.m. Featured in the program are segments taped in local public and public charter schools and questions from a studio audience to State Superintendent June Atkinson, Chief Academic Officer Rebecca Garland and Deputy Academic Officer Angela Quick.

North Carolina Schools and You offers information and discussion around recent important changes in public schools and how parents can be more productively engaged in their children’s success. Specific topics include:

- Teaching and Learning: What Students Are Learning and How;

- Measuring Performance: New Assessments and Accountability Model; and

- Parent Engagement: How Parents Can Support Learning.

To enrich viewer's understanding about these topics, NCDPI has prepared the attached Viewer's Guide with additional background information and helpful links to supplement the program. We hope these materials are helpful to you and your team as you work with parents and community members to support student learning.

9/03/13 > Club Day
On Thursday, September 5, 2013, DCCC will holds its annual Club Day from 10am-2pm. DECHS students are welcome to join DCCC clubs as long as they do not conflict with scheduled classes or other academic meetings. Students will be allowed to attend club day activities during non-class time on 9/5/13.

In additon, DECHS personnel will be on hand to share information about their clubs on September 5 as well. There will be a morning session from 10:00am-10:30am and an afternoon session from 3:30pm-4:00pm. You only need to attend one of the sessions. Session will be held in Sinclair 115 or 118. We are working to post information about DECHS clubs on the DECHS website as soon as possible.
8/14/13 > Roof Construction
Due to roof construction, the main entrance to the Sinclair building will be closed August 15-16.
Please use the side entrance on the Public Safety side of Sinclair to enter and leave the building during this time.
Please have parents park in the back lot to pick you up/drop you off during thi time.

Also, please remember that PICTURE DAY is Friday, August 16.
Freshmen and Sophomores will be taken to room 118 for pictures during their normally scheduled classes.
Juniors and Seniors should report to room 118 for pictures at the time they signed up for during seminar on August 7.

Again, please be sure to enter through the side doors on August 15-16. Please feel free to contact the school with any questions or concerns.

Students and Parents: Please review the "Summer Letter" under the documents and forms tab. This information was mailed out to you previously, but is also posted on this site. Opening responsibilities, needed supplies and a schedule for Aug. 7-16 are included in the letter. Thank you!
5/15/13 > Graduation and Books
All graduating seniors and junior marshals are required to be at graduation practice on Friday, May 17.
You must be in the lobby of Sinclair before 9:30am. Practice will begin promptly at 9:30am and last until we are finished (no later than 12pm)
Seniors will receive their 12 graduation tickets after practice is completed.
Graduation is Saturday May 18 at 9:30am.
All seniors will be dressed in caps and gowns and regalia and be ready in the Sinclair building lobby before 9am. The official class picture will be taken at 9am sharp.
Junior marshals should also arrive by 9am.
If any of your guests have a need for special seating, please inform Mrs. Charles or Mrs. Gentry by email or phone as soon as possible.
If you are interested in graduation pictures, please provide an email address to the school by the end of graduation practice on Friday.

A final college book drop off time will be provided on Monday, May 20 from 1-3pm in 200 Gee. Any books not returned will be charged to you from the college. Three days were previously provided for you to return book.

• May 2 – FINAL Graduation Project Presentation Night (4:00pm-6:00pm in Sinclair) – Students Only (this session is for the remaining 13 students needing to complete the project)

DCCC Graduation
1. By April 19, you must confirm that you plan to graduate and participate in the DCCC ceremony. You can do this via the DCCC website (http://www.davidsonccc.edu/graduation). This confirmation is entirely online and required.
2. Caps and Gowns have been ordered. DECHS will let you know when they are available for pick up. If you have not already paid for these, the $25 fee will be due to the bookstore when you pick them up. You will wear the same cap and gown for the DCCC and DECHS graduations (however, the DECHS tassel is different and you will not wear your DCCC hood to the DECHS graduation)
3. You must attend a MANDATORY graduate information session in order to participate in the DCCC graduation ceremony. You can attend on May 8 at 6pm or May 9 at 9am. These are the only sessions. Attendance at one of the sessions is required. Sessions will be held in the Brinkley Gym.
4. DCCC graduation is May 11 at 10am. You must arrive by 9:15 to get in the line-up for graduation. The graduation for DCCC is held adjacent to the Mendenhall Building.
5. If there is rain on May 11, the alternate site for the DCCC graduation is the Richard Childress Racing Auditorium in Welcome. Graduates will receive only two (2) tickets to this alternative site. The graduation ceremony will be broadcast live at: http://www.davidsonccc.edu/graduation-live.
6. “Sunday Best” dress is expected under the graduation robe – no jeans, flip-flops, shorts, or other casual attire. Young men should wear a collared shirt with a tie and dress pants, dress shoes. Young ladies should wear dress code appropriate school attire that fits the formality of the occasion – avoid excessively high heels as there will be walking, grass, and climbing stairs.
7. 20 of our 22 seniors will participate and receive a degree from DCCC – 91% (WHOO WHOO)

DECHS Graduation
1. There will be a mandatory graduation practice for all DECHS graduates on Friday, May 17 beginning promptly at 9:30am (so, be here before 9:30am). Meet in the Sinclair lobby. Practice will be done by 11:00am.
2. After practice on 5/17, each student will receive twelve (12) tickets for the DECHS graduation ceremony. If students have extra tickets that they do not need, they may give them to other students – the school will not facilitate this.
3. DECHS Graduation will occur at 9:30am on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Graduates are REQUIRED to meet in Sinclair 118 no later than 9:00am for line-up and final preparations. The ceremony should conclude by 11am.
4. Should anyone attending the DECHS graduation ceremony from your “party” need special seating due to handicapping conditions, use of wheelchair, etc., please notify the school as soon as possible so a seat may be set aside. Please arrive early so everyone can be seated and we can begin the ceremony promptly at 9:30am
5. Graduation is a serious occasion marking accomplishments of each graduate; therefore, the following will not be permitted: loud and excessive cheering that detracts from the ceremony and other graduates being recognized, signs, air horns, cowbells or other sound “devices”, etc. Officers will be on hand to escort non-compliant or disruptive audience members from the ceremony. Cell phones should be silenced during the ceremony.
6. There will be an area on the right side of the gym for pictures during the ceremony.
7. “Sunday Best” dress is expected under the graduation robe – no jeans, flip flops, shorts, or other casual attire. Young men should wear a collared shirt with a tie and dress pants, dress shoes. 8. As long as all students complete the graduation project, 100% of our students (22/22) will receive their high school diploma!!!
