Meet Mrs. Hege
Welcome to Southwood!
Hello, my name is Debbie Hege, and I am delighted to be serving your community as assistant principal this year! I look forward to getting to know you and your children as we work together to promote the success of your child. It truly takes everyone: parents, teachers, and administrators to ensure your child's continued growth and enthusiasm for learning.
I received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from High Point University and a Master's degree in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University. I began my teaching career shortly after student teaching in fifth grade at Wallburg Elementary. The following three years I taught first grade at Midway Elementary before transferring to Reeds Elementary where I taught second and third grade. While teaching at Reeds, I earned National Board Certification. My last year in the classroom, I taught third grade at Tyro Elementary.
It is my philosophy that all children can learn and strive to attain high goals with the assistance of a caring, nurturing, and supporting educational team. That team includes the student, the parent, the teacher, and the administration. The staff and administration have been busy preparing for the upcoming school year. Throughout my career, I have loved working with children and teachers, seeing them grow, and assisting them along the way. When people ask, "What do you do for a living," I proudly say, "I was called to teach." My days as a teacher were never boring, but filled with new opportunities and exciting challenges.
I look forward to the new and exciting challenges this year. I am here to help your children grow and become lifelong learners. Feel free to contact me for anything via telephone, email, or in person! My door is always open!!
