ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Assessment

ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 

The ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 assessment measures English language proficiency in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This online assessment is designed for students that are identified as English language learners in kindergarten through 12th grade. The ACCESS 2.0 assessment is administered to all English learners in North Carolina in the spring. Assessment results are available in May.
2020-2021 ACCESS Testing Dates:
February 22-April 23

ACCESS results are used to guide classroom instructional decisions for English learners. ESL specialists and content teachers use ACCESS assessment data to better understand the developmental process of acquiring a second language.  In addition, ACCESS results are used to evaluate the effectiveness of ESL program services and core support. 

The ACCESS 2.0 assessment consists of test items that are based on the WIDA Standards. 
Specifically, the test assesses the social and academic language of the content areas listed below.

WIDA Standards 
Social and Instructional Language
The Language of Math
The Language of Science
The Language of Language Arts
The Language of Social Studies
