McKinney-Vento (Homelessness Information)
The Education for Homeless Children and Youth program is authorized under Title VII-B of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act . The McKinney-Vento Act was originally authorized in 1987 and most recently re-authorized in December 2015 by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
The McKinney-Vento Act is designed to address the challenges that homeless children and youths have faced in enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school. If students or families live in any of the following situation, please contact your school counselor, school social worker, or District Homeless Liaison:
In a shelter, motel, campground, park, abandoned building, bus or train station or some other inadequate accommodation
Doubled up with other people due to loss of housing or economic hardship
Number of students identified under McKinney-Vento in Davidson County Schools
