IKE KEARNEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Davidson County Schools' Students
Lexington, NC

Bow (Ike) Kearney served the Davidson County School system for forty years as a teacher, coach, and its first Director of Vocational Education, currently known as Career and Technical Education. Several members of our CTE family had the opportunity to work with Ike and fondly remember the twinkle in his eyes and the ever-present bow tie he wore. His spirit of love and support for Career and Technical Education made an impression on many of us and remains a significant influence on how we approach our careers today. We continually strive to pass along a part of that spirit to new family members.

Mr. Kearney was an active member of the North Carolina Association of School Administrators, as well as Holly Grove Lutheran Church in the Davis Townsend community, Lions Club, Elks Club, Sapona Country Club, and the Democratic Party. He was a "voice" that Davidson County and North Carolina decision-makers heard; and, his voice always advocated Career and Technical Education.

Shortly after Mr. Kearney's death in April of 1984, a group of vocational educators who had worked closely with him established the Ike Kearney Memorial Scholarship Program for graduates of Davidson County Schools' Career and Technical Education programs. The Scholarship Program complies with section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The first scholarship in the amount of $300.00 was awarded in 1984 to Denton High School graduate, Jones Loflin, who is now a nationally recognized motivational speaker. Many scholarships have been awarded to well-deserving Davidson County Schools' CTE students in Lexington, North Carolina.

This scholarship is currently available to students who have completed at CTE concentrator and will be graduating from the following Davidson County High Schools: Central, Davidson County High, East, Ledford, Oak Grove, North, South, West, and Valley Academy.
